Bourdon Attention Test
The Bourdon Attention Test is an assessment test conducted to obtain information about children’s attention levels. It is generally a test performed to measure children’s attention capacity and to provide support to children who need assistance in this area.
The Bourdon Attention Test is a timed test with specific rules administered to children in certain age groups. The duration of the test is determined as 3 minutes per section for middle school students and 2 minutes for high school students.
The Bourdon Attention Test can measure the attention levels of individuals between the ages of 10 and 20. Before administering the test to children, their motivation should be checked. It will be much more difficult for children who solve the test unwillingly and with low motivation to maintain their attention. For the test to be healthy, children’s mental health should be carefully examined before the test.
At the beginning of the test, children are given a page. On the page, there are letters scattered irregularly. These letters are arranged at regular intervals and 20 lines are added for each page. The specialist administering the test knows the number of letters on the page. Students are asked to underline certain letters on the page in front of them throughout the test. However, while reviewing a line, they should not mark only one of the letters first. It will be healthier for the children to understand what they need to do by explaining with visual examples at this point.
When evaluating the Bourdon Attention Test, the rates of errors are examined. If the error rate is high at the beginning and decreases towards the end, it may indicate that the child has difficulty adapting. Or, if the number of errors made at the beginning is low but increases towards the end, this may indicate that the child is experiencing attention distraction problems. If the number of markings is low throughout the test, the child may be facing attention weakness problems.
The Bourdon Attention Test, evaluated in these ways, is a test that provides extensive information about children’s attention levels.
