ADOS-2 Interview
The ADOS-2 is a standardized tool used in the assessment of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). First developed in 2012 by Dr. Catherine Lord, Michael Rutter, Pamela C. DiLavore, and Susan Risi, the ADOS-2 is a revised and updated version of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS).
The ADOS-2 is typically administered in clinical settings to individuals who have received an autism diagnosis or who exhibit symptoms of autism. It can be used with individuals across different age groups, including children and adults. During the administration of the ADOS-2, there must be an evaluator under the supervision of a trained and experienced specialist.
The ADOS-2 evaluates an individual’s behaviors using a structured observation protocol. This protocol includes a specific set of activities and situations, during which the individual’s responses and behaviors are observed. During the assessment, observers carefully evaluate the individual’s social interaction skills, communication abilities, restricted/interests, and repetitive behaviors.
The ADOS-2 consists of four modules, and the module to be used is determined according to the individual’s age, language level, and the severity of autism symptoms.
Module 1: Designed for preverbal children or children with limited words.
Module 2: Intended for children who speak but do not use full sentences.
Module 3: For children and adolescents who can use sentences.
Module 4: For adults.
The ADOS-2 is not used alone to make or rule out an autism diagnosis. Usually, the ADOS-2 results are used together with clinical observations, other tests, and assessment tools to make a more comprehensive evaluation of the individual’s condition. This assessment process can help create treatment and support plans appropriate to the individual’s needs and requirements.
In summary, the ADOS-2 is a standardized observation tool used in the assessment of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. It is administered by specialists in a clinical setting and uses a structured protocol to evaluate the individual’s social interaction, communication skills, interests, and repetitive behaviors. The administration of the ADOS-2 is carried out under the supervision of a trained and experienced specialist.
The administration of the ADOS-2 requires a carefully planned and professional approach. The evaluator strives to obtain reliable results by ensuring the individual is comfortable and by strictly following the correct protocol.
