Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

In our clinic, comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment services are provided in the field of mental health for infants, children, and adolescents in the 0-18 age group.

Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is the medical specialty that examines the mental development, emotional problems, and behavioral disorders of individuals in the 0-18 age group.

In our clinic, the initial evaluation interview lasts approximately 1 hour, during which a comprehensive assessment is conducted. Before the first meeting, families and children may experience a variety of emotions; it is quite natural to feel curiosity, anxiety, or shyness.

Our priority is to conduct this process in the most comfortable and reassuring manner possible, to understand the child’s needs, and to provide appropriate guidance. When deemed necessary, various developmental or psychometric tests are administered, after which the treatment and/or therapy process is planned.

Subsequent sessions last an average of 50 minutes. The content of these sessions is shaped according to the child’s age, developmental level, and the reason for referral. The majority of each session is conducted with the child or adolescent, while the final 10 minutes are reserved for providing feedback to the family and exchanging information regarding the treatment process.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, medication is not mandatory in every case. The treatment plan is individually determined based on the child's needs. In many cases, psychotherapy (CBT, ACT, play therapy), parent training, and behavioral interventions may be sufficient. When medication is deemed necessary, the family and child are informed in detail and the treatment process is closely monitored.

Families are the most important part of the treatment process. Through family counseling sessions, parents are guided on understanding their children, establishing proper communication, and developing supportive approaches at home. The Triple P positive parenting program provides support for developing positive behaviors and managing negative behaviors. Active family participation directly impacts the success of treatment.

Our clinic administers WISC-IV (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children), CAS2 (Cognitive Assessment System), and other developmental tests. These tests help evaluate the child's cognitive skills such as verbal comprehension, perceptual reasoning, working memory, and processing speed. Test results are not used as a standalone diagnostic tool; they are used as part of a comprehensive evaluation process.
